What competitors are doing, how wells decline, what's happening underground
Argentina's well registry publishes 13.5 months late, and the subsurface never gets published at all. Four tools cover that window with public data: SecEnergía records, Sentinel-1 radar and free satellite imagery. No data purchases, no field instruments, and the arithmetic left in the open so you can redo it.
Before you can argue about spacing, frac sequence or what a block is worth, you need to know how the wells next door decline. With the registry running 13.5 months behind, the tail of the series looks like an activity collapse that never happened. Night-lights cover that blind window: they confirm 71% of 20,178 known well events and estimate the missing ones at ROC-AUC 0.85 for drilling and 0.91 for fracking. At 500 m resolution the unit is the pad cluster, not the well.
What shears a casing is not subsidence but the difference in subsidence between two nearby points, and the map locates those edges. Two adjacent leases move as mirror images for seven years: the one injecting rises 80 mm, the one producing sinks 80 mm. It measures movement, not cause.
Banks and funds ask for emissions intensity, and that number shouldn't depend on the counterparty declaring it. 113 flares detected and 2.4 Mt of CO₂ in 2024, attributed by lease and divided by declared production: between 2.1 and 31.9 kg of CO₂ per barrel of oil equivalent depending on the operator. Methane is measured basin-wide; attributing it by company isn't possible yet.
